CALABRIA, Tarentum. Circa 450-440 BC. AR Nomos (22.5mm, 7.94 g, 6h). Taras, nude, extending left hand and supporting himself with his right, riding dolphin right upon waves; TA[PA] to left / Nude youth, holding rein in left hand and supporting himself with his right, riding horse galloping right. Fischer-Bossert Group 11, 146b (V77/R101 – this coin); Vlasto 258 (same dies); HN Italy 847; SNG Lloyd 143 (same obv. die); Basel 81 (same obv. die); Berlin 91 = Kraay & Hirmer 302 (same obv. die); Gillet 69 (same obv. die); Jameson 98 (same obv. die); Nanteuil 83 (same dies). Lovely old cabinet tone, a little off center on obverse. VF. Wonderful artistic execution.
