Julia Domna. Augusta, AD 193-217. Æ Dupondius (25mm, 13.57 g, 11h). Rome mint. Struck under Septimius Severus, circa AD 198-200. Draped bust right / Venus Felix standing left, holding apple and drawing drapery from shoulder. RIC IV 887 (Septimius). Dark green patina, a few scratches. VF. Rare.

The title of Venus on this reverse is Felix, which means Venus the ‘Fortunate’. According to John Melville Jones in his book A Dictionary of Roman Coins, Venus Felix suggests “harmony in the imperial marriage.”
