Ramsesses II was the son of SETI I and TUYA and was the most powerful and celebrated Pharaoh of all. he ruled for incredible 67 years and lived to be 90 years old, during which he left an indelible work on the Egyptian history. He secured Egypt’s borders and reconquered lands was lost to the Nubians and Hittite, with his campaigns against the latter culminating in the famous battle of Kadesh( near the modern borders of Syria and Lebanon ). His military achievements are matched by the remarkable number of children , he sired some 50 sons and 40-50 daughters and his ambitious architectural program. The many building projects he was responsible for- most notably the Ramesseum and the Temples of AbuSimbel, served as propaganda during his lifetime and as a monuments to his illustrious reign after his death. Ramesses mummy was discovered in 1881AD and is now kept in Cairo’s Egyptian Museum. Ramesses has been popularly associated with the Pharaoh of the Exodus, because of the city of “PER- RAMESSES” as one of the cities the Israelite labored on as mentioned in Exodus 1:11 and 12:37, Numbers 33:3 and 33:5.
