SCARABS. Ancient Egypt. New Kingdom. 1550-1070 BCE. Steatite. (22x15 mm). Base engraved with three registers: the top with “BA” and two “NEB”, the middle with two “SCARABS” and two “NEB”, the bottom with two “KA” and two “ANKH”. Earthen deposits. Chipped on left edge. Pierced for suspension. Very Rare.

BA is what we might call someone’s personality, it will leave the body at the time of death. NEB is the Nebet Basket symbol for Lord, King or Pharaoh. The SCARABS represent KHEPRE, the God of creation. KA is usually translated as soul or spirit. ANKH represents eternal life. This scarab is the ultimate protection to the carrier.
