CILICIA, Issos. Circa 390-385 BC. AR Stater (21mm, 10.55 g, 6h). Apollo standing half-left, holding phiale and placing hand on olive tree to right / Herakles standing facing, head right, lion skin draped over arm, hand on club set on ground to left, holding bow and arrow; wreath to upper left, ankh-like symbol to right. Brindley Group 5b, dies 2/– corr. (ethnic; [unlisted rev. die]); Casabonne Type 3; cf. SNG Copenhagen 154; cf. SNG Levante 173; Hess-Leu [19] (12 April 1962), lot 321 (same obv. die). Toned, area of obverse die rust and break. Near VF. Rare early issue. |
