SCARABS. Ancient Egypt. New Kingdom. 1550-1070 BCE. Steatite. (24x17 mm). The back was crafted to show the ultimate look of a scarab, with fine detail and bezels for inlay. Base engraved with seven protection signs: Sun, Nefer, 2 Uraeus, Maat, Nebu, Crocodile, Pharoaoh. the Pharaoh is sitting in the middle of these signs. Chipped in areas. Pierced for suspension. Very rare and very attractive.

The Sun represents RA, the supreme sun God. Nefer symbolizes beauty, goodness and youth. Uraeus (Cobras), are an emblem of Lower Egypt and represent the fiery eyes of RA, they would spit fire on any approaching enemies, The cobras are on either side of the Pharaoh. Maat is the sign of truth, justice morality and balance. Nebu represents gold which was considered a divine metal,
its polished surface was related to the brilliance of the sun. The Crocodile symbolizes God Sobek, which was presented as a man with a crocodile head. The Pharaoh is sited in the middle of the Scarab, wishing protection, truth and beauty to the Pharaoh.
