SCARABS. New Kingdom. 18th Dynasty. Tuthmose III. 1479-1425 BCE. Gray glazed steatite scarab (18x13 mm). Base engraved with standing Pharaoh, holding “CROOK” over “NEBET BASKET”, symbolizes Lord and NB, PT’H, M’T, M’T, R, MN, KHPR. A very informative scarab. Cf. Rowe 517. Chipped in areas. Gray glaze still present. Pierced for suspension.

The explanation of the symbols found on this scarab is as follows : NB is the basket of plenty, PT’H is God “ PTAH “ ( Creator God ), M’T M’T are two “MAAT” feathers (Truth), R is the God “RA”, the supreme sun God, MN is God “MENTU”, the God of war, KHPR is “KHEPRE”, was one of the first Gods, self-created. All these symbols are to the right and below the pharaoh. Tuthmose III cartouche on the right contains “ PE, MEN, KHEPR”. all these signs translate as “LORD PTAH AND TRUTH OF TRUTH”.
