SCARABS. Ancient Egypt. 2nd Intermediate Period. 1650-1550 BC. Steatite. (13x9 mm). “ADORATION OF SOBEK” , Base engraved with human figure opposite to a crocodile in adoration of the God “sobbed”, an ancient Egyptian deity. he was associated with the Nile crocodile and was known as human body with crocodile head. He was also associated with pharaonic power, fertility and military powers and served as productive deity averting the evil eyes and the danger caused by the Nile River. Small chips at base. Pierced for mounting.
