PHRYGIA, Apameia. Roman Republican period. First century BC. Æ (19mm, 7.39 g, 3h). Laureate head of Apollo(?) right / AΠAMEΩN between two flutes, all within ivy wreath. RPC I 3124; SNG Copenhagen 206 (Augustus); SNG von Aulock 3485 (same). Earthen green patina, porosity, a few light scratches. Near VF. Rare.

When RPC was first published, it followed Copenhagen, Imhooff-Blumer, and von Aulock in describing the obverse as being that of Augustus and dating it to his reign. They include a note, “The dating of the coin and the identification of the portrait as Augustus are extremely uncertain.” Since publication, the RPC team has moved the date earlier and tentatively identified the portrait as Apollo(?).

Closing Date and Time: 29 July 2026 at 12:16:20 ET.
