MYSIA, Cyzicus. Nero. AD 54-68. Æ (15mm, 3.01 g). Struck AD 63-68. Bare head right, monogram behind / Draped bust of Poppaea(?) right, monogram before. RPC I 2249. Dark brown patina, slight roughness, edge flaw. Near VF. Rare.

RPC suggests that the reverse bust is either that of Poppaea or Statilia Messalina. Earlier numismatists suggested Agrippina II but that is unlikely due to Nero’s “steps” hairstyle, introduced in AD 63.
