KINGS of THRACE, Macedonian. Lysimachos. 305-281 BC. AR Tetradrachm (33mm, 16.87 g, 9h). Uncertain mint (Lysimacheia?). Struck 3rd century BC. Diademed head of the deified Alexander right, with horn of Ammon / Athena Nikephoros seated left, left arm resting on shield, transverse spear in background; to inner left, monogram above K-within-circle. Thompson –; Müller –; cf. HGC 3, 1750 (for type); Kress 161, lot 211 (same dies). Lightly toned. Near VF.

The upper monogram on this issue appears with a variety of other monograms, suggesting that it is the primary control mark. There are a number of these issues among Seyrig’s casts in the ANS, where he placed them under the mint of Lysimacheia.
