SCARABS. Ancient Egypt. 2nd Intermediate Period. 1650-1550 BCE. Blue glazed Steatite. (15x11 mm). Base engraved with Goose, Nefer and a sign of good luck on top. Cf. Rowe 771. Small chips. Glaze fully intact. Pierced for suspension. Rare with full glaze.

Nefer is the symbol of beauty and goodness. The Goose is associated with “GEB”, The God of the earth. It is believed in Ancient Egypt, that GEB’s laughter were earthquake and that allow crops to grow. GEB is depicted as a man with goose on his head holding “ANKH” and “SCEPTER”.
