SCARABS. Ancient Egypt. Middle Kingdom. 1800-1500 BCE. Steatite. (25x18 mm). Back is raised by the legs of the scarab over the base. Base engraved with large scarab and two “ URAEI “ - royal cobras- facing each other around the head of the scarab. Decorated with a dashed border. Pierced for mounting.

The Scarab associated with spontaneous creation and the cobras represent solidity and the power of “RA”, the supreme sun God and the emblem of Lower Egypt. This combination of the two signs means “REBIRTH OF THE LOWER EGYPT”.
