Carausius. Romano-British Emperor, AD 286-293. Antoninianus (21mm, 2.40 g, 8h). Earlier or Transitional style. Unmarked mint. Struck circa AD 286-287 or circa 287-288. Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Salus standing left, feeding serpent coiled about and rising from [altar set on ground to left] from patera and holding vertical scepter. Cf. RIC V.5 1556 (for possible issue). Dark green-brown patina. Near VF. Overstruck on an antoninianus of Gallienus. Portions of the undertype visible including Gallienus’ radiate head and the legend [GALLI...] on the reverse.
