CYCLADES, Anaphe. 3rd century BC. Æ (11.5mm, 1.71 g, 8h). Statue of Artemis(?) standing facing, holding fillet(?) and bow / Skyphos marked with A. HGC 6, 776; Triton V, lot 390. Dark green patina. VF. Very rare.

This appears to be the first example of this rare issue where the A on the skyphos is visible. One of the perplexing aspects of attributing this issue to Anaphe has been the absence of an ethnic, which is present on all other bronzes of the island. Thus, the clearly visible A here shows that this issue, in fact, does have an ethnic, but is on the high point of the reverse that is most susceptible to wear.
