Contorniates. Late 4th-5th centuries AD. Æ Contorniate (41mm, 37.22 g, 12h). In the name of Nero. IMP NERO CAESAR AVG P M X, laureate head right / Aerial view of chariot race in the Circus Maximus: spina with obelisk of Augustus flanked by metae, tholos on left(?), and statues of horseman and boar left; two quadrigae left above; two quadrigae right below; to left, standing figure; to right, rider or equestrian statue left. Alföldi, Kontorniat 230 (dies 125/145). Brown patina with minor deposits, two attempted piercing on reverse that do not distract from the complex scene. Near VF. Rare.
