Contorniates. Late 4th-5th centuries AD. Æ Contorniate (36mm, 23.28 g, 12h). In the name of Divus Augustus. DIVVS AVGVSTVS PATER, laureate head right / Assembly of the Gods: the deified Augustus, with eagle at feet, standing facing in attitude of address, to left, Fortuna seated right, holding cornucopia; to right, winged figure standing left before Mars seated facing, head left, holding spear and shield; in exergue, figures of Terra reclining left and and Oceanus right with mythological creature behind each. Alföldi, Kontorniat 117.7 (dies 42/96; this example). Brown patina, smoothed and tooled (prior to the Mabbott sale). VF. Rare.
