Contorniates. Late 4th-5th centuries AD. Æ Contorniate (33mm, 21.46 g, 6h). Alexander III ‘the Great’ of Macedon. Diademed head of Alexander the Great right / [A-LEX-A-ND-ER MAG, Alexander on horseback left, spearing fallen soldier to lower left; shield below horse; in exergue, MACEDON]. Alföldi, Kontorniat 46 (dies 12/10). Green and red-brown patina with some deposits, edges hammered and obverse details re-engraved in antiquity, the reverse design nearly worn smooth. Near VF/Poor. Rare.
