MYSIA, Pergamum. Caracalla, with Geta as Caesar. AD 198-217. Æ Medallion (40mm, 25.21 g, 6h). Damnatio Memoriae. Flavius Xenokrates, strategos. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Caracalla right, seen from behind vis-à-vis [bare-headed and cuirassed bust of Geta left, seen from the front, gorgoneion on breastplate]; c/m; wreath within round incuse / Two centaurs, each holding scepter, supporting Asclepios standing facing, leaning on serpent-entwined staff to left. Weisser, Pergamon 1660; RPC V.2 Online 1238; SNG BN 2253. For c/m: Howgego 480. Earthen brown surfaces, some roughness, delamination flaw on reverse. Fine. Extremely rare, three recorded by RPC. Portrait of Geta erased, Caracalla’s damnatio memoriae of Geta applied after his murder in AD 211.
