CARTHAGE, Third Punic War. Circa 149-146 BC. Serrate BI Double Shekel (26mm, 12.17 g, 12h). Reduced standard. Carthage mint. Wreathed head of Tanit left / Horse standing right; star (or rosette) above. Visonà, Serrated, Variety R, 63–74 (obv. die 1); MAA 100j; CNP 62i; SNG Copenhagen –. Toned, roughness. VF.

From the last issue of Carthage before its destruction by a vengeful Rome following the Third Punic War (149-146 BC). The serrate edge is found on both electrum and billon coins of the period and is similar to the flan treatments of contemporary Macedonian and Seleukid bronze coins. The reason for this added detail remains a mystery.
