UNCERTAIN. 1st-3rd century AD(?). PB (8x13mm, 1.31 g). Head of Silenos facing / Incuse scallop shell. Asia Minor Coins 12756 (this coin). Brown surfaces. VF.
From the Dr. Adrian Carr Collection.
The entry in Asia Minor Coins suggests this specimen to be a lead weight for a Phokaic standard electrum hemihekte. To this cataloger, it is much more likely to belong among the many unpublished lead tokens or tesserae, a series where distinct styles abound. Furthermore, while it is not a stylistic match, the secondary impression on the reverse is reminiscent of Roman-era lead tokens from Ionia.
