JEWELRY. BMAC / Oxus Cultures. Late Bronze Age. 1700-1400 BCE. (Largest Rondel 8 cm. Smallest clasp rondel – 5 cm. Belt rondels – 6.5 cm). Bronze. A large belt made up of 10 rondels, 2 “buckles” and 8 segments. The plaques are decorated in two motifs, the buckle shows scenes of a horse mounted with a rider, on the large buckle, the horse’s head is down, the man is slumped over. On the clasp with smaller rondel, a mounted spearman rides left, spear behind. On the series of rondels that make up the belt, a paired man and woman face each other, holding a shared vessel. It can be interpreted that this has ritual or ceremonial significance. A label on the back of the belt references JS-130. Mostly intact.

From the St. Croix Collection.
