SCARABS. Ancient Egypt. Late Period. 26th Dynasty. Psamtik I. 664-610 BC. Green glazed Steatite. (20x14 mm). Back carved with cross pattern of human face. Base engraved with “FALCON”, “NEB”, and “FRAIL & CROOK”, and other inscriptions. Petrie, Names pl. LV. A few chips and cracks. Glaze almost completely intact. Pierced for suspension. Extremely rare.

All the hieroglyphs inscribed on this a scarab read “LORD PHARAOH PSAMTIK”. Psamtik I was the first Pharaoh of the SAITE 26th dynasty, and the last native dynasty before Egypt was conquered by the Persians.
