SCARABS. Ancient Egypt. 2nd Intermediate Period. 1650-1550 BCE. Steatite. (18x13 mm). Base engraved with a LION WITH FALCON head right, flanked by two URAEUI. A few chips. Deeply engraved. Pierced for suspension.

The URAEUI (Royal Cobras), is an Emblem of Lower Egypt and represents the fiery eyes of “RA”. Lion with a falcon head represents two Gods “TJEL” and “PAKHET”, were assimilated by Horus into more important divinities, this helps to account for lion aspects in the case of Gods that otherwise should not have such an aspect. Horus assimilated God TJEL giving a lion image of God associated with the falcon.
