SCARABS. Ancient Egypt. 3rd Intermediate Period. 1069-664 BC. Brown glazed Steatite. (19x12 mm). Back is nicely crafted with neat lines showing wings, legs and mouth. Base engraved with “FALCON”, two “SUNS”, “SERPENT” and “MAAT”. Minor chips. Glaze almost completely intact. Pierced for suspension. An attractive piece. Very rare.

The Falcon represents God Horus, the God of the sky and the divine protector of kings. The Suns represent “RA”, the supreme Sun God. Maat represents Goddess “MAAT” for truth and justice. The serpent represents fertility or a creative life force. As serpent shed their skin, they are symbols of rebirth, transformation, immortality and healing.
