SCARABS. Ancient Egypt or Levant. Middle Kingdom. 1800-1500 BCE. Steatite. (20x15 mm). Base engraved with western semitic - style mimicking an Egyptian falcon sitting on the hieroglyph “NB” or ”NEBET BASKET”. The NB is used as long, king, God or Goddess. Blue glaze present on base. Pierced for mounting.

Horus is the God of the sky and the divine protector of kings. The falcon is surrounded by four palm leaves, symbolize victory, peace and triumph. This combination of hieroglyphs is translated to mean “Lord Horus is Victorious”.
