SCARABS. Ancient Egypt. Middle Kingdom. n/a1800-1500 BCE. Steatite Plaque. (15x13 mm). On one side, bull standing to right, on the opposite side,” WADJET” (or “UDJAT”), the eye of “HORUS”. The bull symbolizes “APIS” and served as an intermediary between humans and all powerful Gods. The divine bull thought to be the manifestation of the creator God “PTAH”, he was depicted as a black bull with a sun disc between his horns, as can be seen on this plaque. Very rare. Minor wear. Pierced for suspension. |
