SCARABS. Ancient Egypt, 2nd intermediate period. 1650-1550 BC. Steatite. (18x12 mm). Back nicely engraved and edges are beautifully decorated. Base engraved with many power and protective meaning, on top, in the middle “ DJED “ for potency and duration for the Pharaoh rule, flanked by two “ SA symbol “ of the partitive Goddess, flanked by two “ NETER “. Below two falcons of “ HORUS” (God of the sky), flanked by two “ URAEUS “, (royal cobras), on righting feather of “MAAT“, (truth and justice). On the bottom, two mountains (upper and lower Egypt), flanked by “SA symbol and by two “NETER“. Once glazed. Pierced for mounting. A wonderfully carved piece.
