CERAMIC POTTERY. Trans-Caucasian. Peripheral tribes. 2,800 - 2,400 BCE. (22 cm tall x 11 cm diameter). A tear shaped body forms the core of this ritual pitcher with slightly defined flat foot and bulbous body. The shoulder is defined by a decorative ridge, tapering quickly to meet a trumpeted neck that draws upwards into an outstretched spout and very well formed rounded edge. From the back, a handle extends from the top of the lip to just below the shoulder’s ridge. White clay with black geometric designs and minor encrustations. Loss of paint on a portion of the surface from wear. Light chipping around rim/lip. Light earthen deposits. A very impressive piece.

From the St. Croix Collection.
