CAPPADOCIA, Caesarea-Eusebia. Trajan. AD 98-117. AR Didrachm (21mm, 6.82 g, 6h). Dated Cos. VI (AD 112-114). Laureate bust right, drapery on left shoulder / Mount Argaeus with grotto containing cult stone flanked by pyramidal objects, second grotto at top, trees on slopes; on face of mountain, lioness attacking stag right. Ganschow, Münzen 128a; RPC III 3018; Sydenham, Caesarea Supp. 210a. Toned, patches of find patina. Near VF. Rare.

Ex Numismatik Naumann 83 (3 November 2019), lot 529.

The lioness and stag are not noted in any of the standard references. However, there are two varieties found in CoinArchives, in opposite directions, paired with a number of obverse varieties. All seem to be rare.

Closing Date and Time: 29 April 2026 at 12:35:20 ET.

All winning bids are subject to a 20% buyer’s fee.
