CERAMIC POTTERY. Trans-Caucasian. Peripheral tribes. 2,800 - 2,400 BCE. (15.5 cm tall x 19 cm long x 7.5 cm wide). A ritual vessel in the form of an ibex with squat legs, a long-stretched neck and horns. The elongated body supports several embellishments atop, including a tail, a crest and frills between the neck and the body. The head terminates with a small opening at the mouth to pour libation. The entire vessel is covered in red slip, and then painted with complex rosette shapes and geometric patterns. Earthen patina. A couple tiny chips at nose/hole, otherwise remarkably intact with impressive glazing. |
