SCARABS. Egypt. New Kingdoms Period. 1,550 - 1,050 BCE. Steatite. (22 mm). A simple scarab with defined head, clypeus, notches for wing cases and legs. Bi-directional piercing for suspension. On the face: The hieroglyphs mrj (meri) “beloved,” an attested name in Ranke p. 161-162, either as a stand alone name or associated to gods (Amun, Ptah and Ra are most commonly attested). The cartouche is surrounded by two lotus flowers and scroll work, resembling lotus plants. All within single line border. Intact. |
