CERAMIC POTTERY. Trans-Caucasian. Peripheral tribes. 2800-2400 BCE. (18.5 cm tall x 16.5 cm long x 10 cm wide). A large ritual vessel in the shape of a ram with an elongated body and footed base. A squat neck extends into a horned head facing forward. Two small nipples in the lower front portion of the torso extend to pour libations. White pottery with a dark red slip and black decoration. Some encrustation and sandy surfaces present over the surface of the piece. An incredibly detailed, fine example of pottery. Light earthen patina over rather complete and impressive glaze. Intact. |
