In 1817, Louis de de Freycinet set sail from Toulon on 17 September 1817 on a mission of exploration. The ship would cruise the south Pacific from 1818-1819, visiting the Hawaiian Islands, the Marianas, New Guinea, and Australia. While the Uranie herself wrecked on some unmarked rocks near the Falkland Islands on the return trip, Freycinet himself made it back to France, publishing his extensive notes on the voyage.
