SELEUCIS and PIERIA, Uncertain. Augustus. 27 BC-AD 14. Æ (23mm, 10.70 g, 12h). Regulus, strategos. Bare head of Augustus right / ΣTPA/ THΓOΣ/ PHΓΛOΣ. RPC I 4097; FITA 125. Brown patina, flan flaw and preparation marks. Good VF.

It is not certain who the Regulus named on this coin is or what the location of his mint was. It has been suggested that this Regulus could be the Q. Articuleius Regulus mentioned in an inscription from Canusium in Italy (CIL 9.331) dated to the rule of Augustus, who is given the title praetor pro consule, for which the Greek equivalent is strategos. A legate with the same name is recorded in Caramulo in Lusitania around the same time (EDCS-13800098) who might be the same person.

Closing Date and Time: 18 March 2026 at 11:51:40 ET.
