Cermaic - Pottery. Trans-Caucasian. Peripheral tribes. 2,800 - 2,400 BCE. (13.0 cm tall x 9.0 cm diameter). A human headed ritual vessel with two distinct parts, a squat, round base with a flat foot and leveled shoulder. Atop, a short neck supports a large, open human headed figure with two extensions at either side representing hair. To the back a single handle. The vessel is adorned with painted details in red and black, in extreme detail over the entire vessel. The human head is rarely seen on this pottery. Patina loss is more prevalent on the lower back of the piece. Minor chipping at rim, otherwise intact. |
