Maximinus I. AD 235-238. AR Denarius (20mm, 3.30 g, 6h). Rome mint. 1st emission, early AD 235. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Salus seated left, feeding from patera a serpent coiled around and rising from altar to left and resting left arm on chair. RIC IV 14; BMCRE 22; RSC 85. Lightly toned, some minor marks. Near EF. An early portrait of Maximinus I, resembling Severus Alexander, before the die engravers knew what he looked like.
