Septimius Severus. AD 193-211. AR Denarius (16mm, 2.84 g, 11h). Emesa mint. Struck AD 194-195. Laureate head right / S P Q R OPT IMO PBINCIPI [sic], Septimius on horseback left, holding spear. RIC IV 415 var. (rev. legend spelling); Bickford-Smith 27; RSC 652 var. (same). Attractively toned, shallow cleaning marks under tone. EF. Both sides well struck with fresh dies. Although not specifically listed in the references, the variety with the spelling error on the reverse is much more common than the variety which is spelled correctly.
