Divus Maximianus. Died AD 310. Æ Quarter Follis (16mm, 1.30 g, 6h). Siscia mint. Struck under Constantine I, AD 317-318. Laureate and veiled head right / Emperor seated left on curule chair, raising hand and holding short scepter; SIS. RIC VII 41; S 16412 (this coin illustrated). Dark green and earthen patina. Good VF.

Despite having dispatched of Maximianus in AD 310, Constantine nonetheless included him in this series of memorial issues struck in AD 317-318 in order to boost his claims of seniority over his rival Licinius I. This particular emission was struck at Siscia shortly after Constantine captured the mint from the Licinii following the battle of Cibalae in AD 316 following which Licinius lost his western lands including Pannonia.
