KINGS of MACEDON. Demetrios I Poliorketes. 306-283 BC. AR Tetradrachm (26mm, 16.98 g, 6h). In the name and types of Alexander III. Tyre mint. Struck circa 301/0-295/4 BC. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; vertical club and E in left field. Newell 25; Price 3562; Hersh, Tyrus 39, dies XV/a-b; HGC 3, 1009b. Lightly toned, trace deposits, numerous hairlines. VF. Very rare, only two noted by Hersh, two additional in Pella, none in CoinArchives.

As shown in Hersh’s die study of the mint of Tyre Alexander coinage under Demetrios I, the reverse die used on this coin was later re-engraved, replacing the name of Alexander with that of Demetrios. Thus, this was the final issue of Alexander Tetradrachms struck at Tyre in the name of Alexander.

Closing Date and Time: 4 February 2026 at 10:38:00 ET.
