JUDAEA, Herodians. Herod I (the Great). 40-4 BCE. Æ Half Prutah (14mm, 0.86 g, 12h). Jerusalem mint. Tripod table / Grape bunch on vine. A&F Type 14, (both dies unlisted); Meshorer 58; Hendin 6218; RPC I 4907. Earthen green and brown surfaces, off center. Near VF. Extremely rare.

David Hendin, in his Guide to Biblical Coins, Sixth Edition, p. 215, notes “Grapes and vine are clear on at least one specimen; thus, this is the first Jewish coin to feature grapes, which are repeated on a coin of Archelaus and coins of the Bar Kochba Revolt.”
