Aelia Zenonis. Augusta, AD 475-476. Æ (8.5mm, 0.93 g, 1h). Constantinople mint. Struck under Basiliscus. Pearl-diademed and draped bust right / Zenonis monogram. RIC X 1017; LRBC 2287. In NGC encapsulation 6158920-002, graded Ch F, Strike: 4/5, Surface: 2/5. Rare. Erroneously encapsulated as a Julius Nepos (RIC X 3222).

Ex Triton XXV – Session 6 (11 January 2022), lot 6727.

While the monograms have similarities, the R of the Nepos monogram is not present on this example, whereas traces of the Z to the upper left are. This coin should be considered an example of Aelia Zenonis.
