Head of hero (Alexander or Seleukos?) right, wearing helmet covered with panther skin and adorned with the ear and horns of a bull / Nike standing right, placing wreath on trophy to right; DW(?) (in Aramaic) in lower middle field. Marest-Caffey Imitations Group 6, A1 = Pitchfork 55 (this coin). For prototype: cf. SC 195 (tetradrachm); cf. HGC 9, 21 (same). Toned, deposits, roughness, extensive cleaning marks, breaks in plating exposing core. Near VF. Apparently unique. |
