SELEUKID EMPIRE. Seleukos I Nikator. Second satrapy and kingship, 312-281 BC. Fourrée Drachm (17mm, 3.33 g, 1h). Imitating Persis mint issue struck circa 295-281 BC. Head of hero (Alexander or Seleukos?) right, wearing helmet covered with panther skin and adorned with the ear and horns of a bull / Nike standing right, placing wreath on trophy to right; DW(?) (in Aramaic) in lower middle field. Marest-Caffey Imitations Group 6, A1 = Pitchfork 55 (this coin). For prototype: cf. SC 195 (tetradrachm); cf. HGC 9, 21 (same). Toned, deposits, roughness, extensive cleaning marks, breaks in plating exposing core. Near VF. Apparently unique.

From the Colin E. Pitchfork Collection.

The appearance of this fourrée drachm suggests that there may have been an official drachm issue that parallels the SC 195 tetradrachm issue.
