Carausius. Romano-British Emperor, AD 286-293. Antoninianus (26mm, 3.76 g, 7h). ‘C’ mint. Struck circa AD 287-290. IMP CARAVSIVS P F AVG, radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / COM ES AVG, Victory, standing left, holding wreath in outstretched hand and palm frond; C|–//–. RIC V.5 2635 (this coin cited and illustrated); Hunter 86. Dark green-brown patina with verdigris and toned partial silvering, reverse double struck, minor flan crack. Good VF. Extremely rare. One of two known. The RIC V.5 plate coin. All older references cite the same coin in the Hunterian.
