PAMPHYLIA, Side. Circa 430-400 BC. AR Stater (24.5mm, 10.69 g, 1h). Pomegranate / Helmeted head of Athena right; [olive branch to upper right]; all within incuse square. Atlan Group IV, 43.28 corr. (O37/A41 [missing from catalog, but noted on p. 178]) = Celenderis 6 = Pitchfork 35 (this coin); SNG BN 628–9; SNG Copenhagen 369; BMC 7; Boston MFA 2103 = Warren 1241 (all from the same dies). Deeply toned, with some iridescence, a little off center, some weakness to strike. VF.
From the Colin E. Pitchfork Collection. Ex Brian M. Jamieson Collection (Noble 86, 21 November 2007), lot 3320; Markov 10 (23 October 2001), lot 140; 1957 Cilicia (‘Celenderis’) Hoard (IGCH 1255).
Atlan apparently missed this coin when compiling his catalog, as the entry for die combination 43 lists 27 coins, in descending order by weight, but this coin is not among those. However, in his analysis of the Celenderis Hoard (p. 178), he specifically refers to this coin (Celenderis 6) as coin 43.28. Perhaps he intended to add it to the list at a later time, but forgot?
