Severus II. As Caesar, AD 305-306. Æ Follis (27mm, 8.81 g, 6h). Aquileia mint, 3rd officina. Laureate, helmeted, and cuirassed bust left, holding ‘scepter’ over shoulder and shield / Severus, laureate and wearing military attire, on horseback galloping right, holding shield and thrusting transverse spear at an enemy kneeling left who holds both hands outwards; horse trampling another speared fallen enemy below; discarded shield below horse; AQΓ. RIC VI 68a; P&Z 120; S 14643 (this coin illustrated on p. 307). Green-brown patina with some toned trace silvering, slight weakness. EF. Rare.

While likely intended as a spear (as at other mints) sometimes the spear over the shoulder on these busts are cut as a scepter. Such is the case on this example.
