SELEUCIS and PIERIA, Antioch. Nero. As Caesar, AD 50-54. AR Didrachm (18mm, 7.35 g, 12h). Struck under Claudius. Bareheaded and draped bust right / ∆I∆PAXMON, simpulum and lituus. McAlee 272; RPC I 4171; Prieur 70. Light porosity under dark toning. Good VF.

From the Barry N. Rightman Collection. Ex Garth R. Drewry Collection (Classical Numismatic Group 69, 8 June 2005), lot 1198; Stack's 499 (2 December 1997), lot 802; Gorny 81 (3 March 1997), lot 565; Auctiones 25 (19 June 1995), lot 607; Lanz 28 (7 May 1984), lot 447.

Apparently the first didrachm struck at Antioch, and marked with the denomination to aid in identification. Whatever the reason for the introduction of the denomination, it proved a failure; two other types were struck early in Nero's reign, and then the didrachm disappeared.
