Helmeted head of Athena right, with profile eye / Owl standing right, head facing; olive spray and crescent to left, no legend to right. Le Rider, Alexander, pp. 214-9; Van Alfen, Owls, Group IVb, 91–4 var. (name of Mazakes on rev.; same obv. die). Toned, struck with worn obverse die, test cut on reverse. VF. Very rare without legend on reverse.

Although there is no legend on the reverse, this coin is obverse die linked to a number of reverse die struck in the name of Mazakes. A number of coins of Mazakes in Van Alfen’s Group I also have no legend and are obverse die linked to reverses with Mazakes’ name.
