IONIA, Magnesia ad Maeandrum. Mid 140s BC. AR Tetradrachm (33mm, 16.85 g, 12h). Stephanophoric type. Pausanias, son of Pausanias, “magistrate”. Diademed and draped bust of Artemis right, bow and quiver over shoulder / Apollo Delphios standing left, left elbow resting on tall tripod behind, holding in right hand a branch tied with fillet; ΠAYΣANIAΣ ΠAYΣANIOY to left, MAΓNHTΩN to right, meander pattern below; all within laurel wreath. Ellis-Evans, Wreathed, dies 9/PP21; Jones dies 8/– (unlisted rev. die); Jameson 1504 (same obv. die); Pitchfork 28 (this coin). Attractively toned over lustrous surfaces, some hairlines under tone. Near EF.
