SICILY, Syracuse. Second Democracy. 466-405 BC. AR Tetradrachm (26mm, 17.36 g, 3h). Struck circa 466-460 BC. Charioteer, wearing long chiton, holding kentron in right hand and reins in both, driving slow quadriga right; above, Nike, wearing long chiton, flying right, crowning horses with open wreath held in her extended hands; in exergue, ketos right / Head of Arethousa right, wearing pearl tainia, single-pendant earring, and pearl necklace; ΣV-RA-KOΣI-OИ and four dolphins around. Boehringer Series XIIIa, 412 (V212/R291); HGC 2, 1309; BMC 67 (same dies); Virzi Sale 168 (same dies). Lightly toned, with some iridescence, minor flan flaws on obverse, a couple of marks on reverse. Good VF.
